The science is settled, says Leo

With stiff competition from an assortment of loony luminaries, Carbon Dioxide gives their Clown of the Year Award this year to man-child Leonardo di Caprio, a fellow who pretends for a living.

His performances in recent weeks have been exceptional …

culminating in his claims that sea ice is disappearing, his hypocritical appearance at the so-called People’s Climate March ( losing his hearing when asked about his yachts, for example), and lecturing the UN on climate change (also without mentioning his four homes, private jets and renting the FIFTH biggest yacht in the world from an OIL billionaire).

Any better than that, and he’ll be taking away Al Gore’s Lifetime Clown Award.

Oh, and on that sea-ice thing: Global Sea Ice Extent Sep 22 2014 – Highest Since 1998. The red line shows 2014, up to Day 264 …

Libertarians - denying the facts of reality since forever. Tell me, where does the energy go on planet crazy?

Ayn Rand didn't believe in the link between smoking and lung cancer so it's only fitting that her followers know better than today's scientists.

Yes, cause no scientists have ever been wrong with any of their pronouncements and predictions ever. Let's see. Scientists have said that when Saddam Hussein ordered the oil wells in Kuwait to be destroyed the resulting fires would destroy the Earth's climate forever. Scientists have said that it is impossible for a human to survive travel at more than 60 mph because their lungs couldn't function at such speeds. Scientists have said that the BBC radiowaves would kill all the seabirds around the UK. Scientists have said that when the first nuclear bomb was detonated it would cause a chain reaction which would destroy the entire atmosphere of the Earth. Scientists have said that the bumblebee is too unaerodymaic to fly. Scientists have said that a man could not run a sub-four minute mile. Scientists have said that it would be impossible to develop a coefficient of friction between a car tyre and the ground exceeding "1". Scientists have said that by the year 2000 the temperature of the Earth would increase by 9 degrees C, then 5, then 3, then 1, then.....temperature dropped anyway. Scientists have even said the temperature of the Earth in the year 2000 would be glacial as another ice age got into full swing.....oh dear.

Scientists have been wrong in the past. They can and do get it wrong. There is nothing different about them today. They are people, not omniscient deities.

Stop the worshipping, Barry. Get off your knees. Start observing the reality around you. Learn fact.

That'd be nice.

It's "thinking" like Amit's that leads to children dying because their parents think vaccinating them will give them autism. He's evil. Where's the energy, Amit?

Actress Emma Thompson says the science is settled too. Interesting to hear Mike Hoskings response to that this morning. "You only have to keep saying it when the science isn't settled."

Yeah, isn't Hosking just horrible? A sort of flippant, smug right-wing vanity project. Is he still taking kick-backs from SkyCIty?

It amazes me how people of no consequence like movie stars suddenly become experts on everything they know nothing about when they get rich and famous. The book "Triumph of the Airheads" addresses this phenomenon.

Begging the question. Of course the 99.5 per cent of scientists who believe in climate change could be wrong, but the same applies to the 0.5 per cent who believe otherwise.

What drugs are these pseudo-scientists smoking???

Can I have some???

The climate is always changing. It is proven science, accepted by 157.99% of climate scientists that Barney Flintstone's SUV was the cause of the end of the last ice age which raised sea levels nearly 400 feet while his cousins were crossing the land bridge from Asia to North America, and Barney's kids were drawing pictures in caves in modern-day France with their Crayolas 14,000 years ago. Where do these climate deniers come from? Maybe from the same place that the strawmen of the followers of Goreballwarmism come from. Thin air. You can make this stuff up. And those who follow this religion are just as much true believers as those who follow Allah, or any other mystical figure.

Yeah, Randists are weird.

I always find it difficult to respond to respond to published Environmental activism. In the Bangkok newspapers we get a constant barrage of Climate dogma.
Usually I manage to avoid it by looking where it comes from , in this case Dorothy Grace Guerrero at “the Thai climate Justice working Group and Focus on the Global South”. wow

quote
According to the (IPCC), climate change is advancing faster than was previously predicted. The current emission pathway is far above a “doubling” of CO2 concentrations, which means we are facing 4°C to 6°C of warming this century. If dramatic climate change impacts are already happening with just a 0.6°C rise since the 1800s, what more will a rise of 2°C to 6°C bring?
First and foremost, climate change is the result of an unjust economic system
Secondly it affects poor people more, “The poorer countries and communities are experiencing the earliest and most severe problems”.
unquote
It threatens the unborn and it causes droughts, and floods, and impoverishment of the agriculture base. It’s the fault of the big corporations .We need to eat less and send more money to West Arica
Its all the fault of the USA , These ‘facts and more are asserted by a group called “Climate space”, [ which in fact contradicts most of them, and is a milder form of hysteria.]
Climate change causes water rises and water deprivation, The ebola outbreak was caused by global warming . It ‘climate’ caused the failure of a corrupt democracy in Thailand and a Military Government democracy.
In the Bangkok newspapers we get a constant barrage of this dogma. Usually I manage to avoid it by looking where it comes from .
We rarely see letters to the newspaper about climate hysteria articles in the Bangkok Post or the Nation , and in fact I believe many ex patriots just see it for the political propaganda that it is.

Possible this is another brick in the wall of the World Wide Communist plot through infiltration and corruption of our academic and scientific institutions.

A rare letter to the paper in Bangkok pointing out the dishonesty of Global warming science activists
More myth about global warming September 27, 2014 1:00 am
quote
Almost daily we read of Western experts telling Thailand to reduce carbon emissions to "fight global warming".
The UN tries to get countries to reduce carbon emissions to stop global warming. There are several problems here. According to data, CO2 rise follows warming by 800 years. One volcanic eruption spews out more CO2 than man has made since the Industrial Revolution began.
And, according to the data sets used last year, October 1 will mark the 18th year of "no significant warming trend in surface average temperature," according to Patrick Michaels, director of the Cato Institute's Centre for the Study of Science.
He says that, even if the current 18-year trend were to end, it would still take nearly 25 years for average global temperature figures to reflect the change.
So what happened to the views of the 97 per cent of scientists who we were told concur on man-made global warming?
Another little problem here: The original basis for the "97-per-cent scientists concur" claim was Margaret Zimmerman's paper. She sent some heavily loaded questions to 10,257 earth scientists. Of those, 3,146 thought it was important enough to reply, while the rest chucked it in the bin.

Zimmerman excluded all but 77 of the responses to the question "Do you think human activity is a significant contributing factor in changing mean global temperatures?" Of the remainder, 75 answered yes. Hence her "97 per cent" assertion, whereas it's actually 2.4 per cent.
